I was born in Nazilli, a beautiful town in the Aegean Region of Türkiye. My professional musical journey began in 2006 when I graduated from Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory (Türkiye). Over the years, I have had the privilege of performing solo and chamber music concerts in countries such as Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Bulgaria. However, the most rewarding and fruitful period of my musical career began in 2008 when I passed the entrance exam of the prestigious Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra. In this orchestra, I had the opportunity to work alongside some of the highest caliber artists, marking a significant milestone in my career. In 2011, I was promoted to assistant principal cellist, and after serving in this position for four years, I became principal cellist in 2015 a role I continue to hold. Alongside my orchestral and solo career, I contribute to the development of Cello Society, a vibrant global community and platform for cellists, where I share my passion and experiences.
How Did Your Journey With The Cello Begin?
My journey with the cello began at the age of 12, when I was accepted into the cello department of Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory. The first time I heard the sound of the cello, I felt something I couldn’t quite explain as if I had found something I had been searching for all along. Over time, my love for the instrument grew, and with every note, I began to discover myself more deeply. For me, the cello has never been just a musical instrument; it became the most natural way to express my emotions and who I am.
Since I had no relatives in Ankara and was quite young, I spent ten years covering middle school, high school, and university living in the state dormitory on campus. Our school locked its doors in the evening, and the dorm wouldn’t let us out early in the morning, which made it difficult to fit in daily practice. So I found a way: I would leave a ground-floor window unlatched at night, then climb down from the first floor in the morning before classes started, just to practice scales and exercises. Looking back, I’m amazed at my own courage and I realize how much that dedication shaped my discipline and who I’ve become.
Your New Website Was a Big Surprise for Your Followers. How Did the Project Start?
Instagram helped me build a wonderful cello community. However, social media often focuses on short-term content. I wanted to create a lasting space where people can learn and engage. That’s how the idea of the website was born. On this site, visitors will enjoy award-winning exams designed for cellists. Additionally, they will discover full performances of their favorite cellists and explore talented luthiers from around the world.

As the founder of Cello Society, I plan to grow the community and enhance interaction among members by introducing important updates to the platform. My goal is not only to facilitate knowledge exchange but also to build a strong, supportive global cello community. I aim to create a welcoming space where cellists of all levels can develop their skills, connect deeply, and keep the art of cello playing alive together.
What Advice Would You Give to Young Cellists?
The cello takes patience, dedication, and heart it’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Progress may feel slow at times, and there will be days when things don’t go as planned. But trust the process. Every scale, every exercise, and every mistake is part of a greater journey that shapes both your playing and your character. My advice is simple: believe in yourself, stay curious, and never stop learning.
Try to build a personal connection with your instrument. When you truly bond with your cello, it becomes more than just wood and strings it becomes a voice for your inner world. Your music starts to carry your feelings, your stories, your identity. That’s when playing becomes something deeply fulfilling.
